Access and transport improvements

Stratford Regional Station comprise a wide range of measures intended to increase statistic capacity and spread this capacity more evenly across the station. The most significant increase in demand between 2004 and 2016 is estimated to relate to an increase in passengers making movements within the station itself.

The works the town centre link bridge between Stratford City Zone 1 and Meridian Square which has pushed into place over the railway lines in July 2009.  Related works also include a northern ticket hall and works to increase platform capacity and accessibility.

The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) Stratford International Extension involves conversiono f the North London Line between Stratford and Caning Town to become part of the DLR network.  This will provide a vital link between Stratford Regional and Stratford International Stations, a new station serving Stratford High Street and other new stations acros the wider area.  The extension is expected to open in summer 2010.

Another element of station improvements is the Olymic Capacity Enhancement Works, promoted by Transport for London on behalf of the Olympic Delivery Authority.  The works include new lifts and staircases; wider, longer and clearer platforms; a new westbound Central Line platform; a second upper-level entrance connecting with the town centre link bridge steps; and a re-opened subway.  These will substantially enhance station capacity to accommodate growing demand as well as the spectrators expected to use the station during the London 2012 Games.

Stratford International Station was completed in 2006 and since December 2009 has been used by High Speed 1 domestic services into Kent and St. Pancras.  Initially a bus service provides interchange with Stratford Regional Station.  In future direct connections will be provided by the DLR extension, and a pedestrian link through Stratford City Zone 1 via a new Eastern Egress Bridge at Stratford International.
