Much of the twentieth century saw Stratford in a period of decline. In the last ten years, however there has been a renewed drive for growth and regeneration.

Stratford today is an area of great opportunity and potential. It will be the focus of the world’s attention for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics and will have the capacity to remain in that spotlight for the years that follow. Stratford City, the development of former rail lands that sits between the existing town centre and the site for the new Olympic Park, will have at its heart a new Channel Tunnel Rail Link station. From here Paris will be 2 hours 20 minutes away and Brussels only a 2 hours journey.

The 73ha site will offer up to 1.25 million square metres of retail, leisure and entertainment facilities, offices and hotels, along with more than 5,000 homes.

Crossrail will further improve connections at Stratford, with a key link to Heathrow Airport and Paddington plus additional links to the City.

These landmark developments will act as a catalyst for the wider regeneration of Stratford. The area will benefit from the extension of the Docklands Light Railway, improvements to capacity at Stratford Regional Station and improved walking and cycling routes.

Massive investment will take place as a result of these changes and Stratford’s strategic location as a new centre for employment, leisure and residential living will be realised.
